Don't have an Eating Disorder Care Plan? You may be eligible to access a rebate from your health fund if you are covered for dietitian services. The rebate amount will depend on your policy and level of dietetic cover
Anyone with Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is eligible for 20 dietetic sessions with an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) within 12 months. And will receive a Medicare rebate of $63ish for each appointment.
While many people believe a dietitian's role is limited to improving nutrition and health, their scope is much broader. A dietitian is highly skilled in conducting detailed assessments of your medical condition and health concerns.
They consider factors such as your symptoms, medical history, blood test results, medications, supplements, lifestyle, dietary habits, and your personal relationship with food and preferences. By gathering this comprehensive information, a good dietitian collaborates with you to develop health goals that also respect your values.

No, you don’t need a referral to see a Melbourne Dietitian. However, if you want to claim a medicare rebate for your session, you will need a referral from your GP. We recommend seeing if you’re eligible for either a Chronic Disease Management Plan or an Eating Disorder Care Plan (EDP)
Yes, most private health insurance companies cover Accredited Practising Dietitians. We recommend contacting your health fund to discuss the rebates that are available, as they depend on your level of cover.
If you’re looking for a good dietitian in Melbourne, the first thing to do is look for their credentials. Make sure they’re Accredited Practising Dietitians (APD). Next make sure they’re the best dietitian for you by considering the areas they specialise in, their expertise, their approach, their availability, and their fees.
